We might have heard this “My job is too stressful” a lot of times from our friends, family, and at social gatherings.
Researchers have indicated that more people are getting stressed at work than ever before, and the numbers are at an all-time high. according to research conducted for ages, 16-79 years old regarding work related stress in the USA, around 60% agreed they were stressed at work.
The numbers would certainly be higher or about the same in other parts of the world, especially in developing countries and those countries where labor laws are not implemented, and work related stress could be higher.
Workloads have been increased and expectations are higher from employees with salaries not matching the workload an employee carries over them.
Work-related stress could have significant effects on your health and could lead to heart-related problems. It is impossible to find any low stress job these days.
But, there are still a few ways you can adopt to reduce or helps you in managing stress at work and have a productive time at work.
TIME MANAGEMENT AT THE START OF THE DAY
Most working families have their hands full, you have to get ready your kids for school, get ready yourself, grab your stuff before leaving home and grab your tumbler with coffee while dropping off kids to school before heading to work. While on the way to work, you have to deal with heavy traffic or someone tried to cut you off and almost hit your car.
All this chaotic morning routine has already put you under pressure before even you stepped into office.
To avoid this chaotic start in the morning, start managing your time, get up earlier and by now you should know how much time would it take to get yourself and your kids ready.
Always eat breakfast at home or have enough time to eat breakfast peacefully. This will ease your nerves and have already energized you before stepping at work.
I AM CONFIDENT IN MY ABILITIES TO MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS:
Always know what you are hired for and what requirements are expected from you. If you are unaware of it, you will always be confused and would not be able to succeed professionally and personally.
Have a clear mind, on what tasks are required from you and how you can complete those tasks effectively within time.
Whether it’s your work desk or your work dress, you need to be composed and organized. No matter whether your personality is not organized, it is very important to be composed,
your work desk should show how composed you are and documents should be filed properly and will help you to avoid finding things under rubbish.
This will help you focus and enhance your productivity too.
Workplace gossips are also the reason for work stress. You cannot end this at any workplace, but you can surely stay out of it. Avoid as much as you can, it will help you stay out of negativity and it will save your energy for rest of the day.
Conserve your energy by staying off negativity and gossip, you still have a life outside work, utilize your spare energy at home, with kids, or any hobbies you have.
FIX YOUR CUBICAL / WORKPLACE
A lot of people don’t realize if their cubical/ workplace also creates their stress. If your computer is not positioned well, or you have to bend too much to stare monitor or your chair isn’t comfortable and isn’t positioned well, it may cause you to stress too.
Fix your chair at first, and position your monitor with a 20-28inches viewing distance, you should be viewing down your monitor at an angle of 15 degrees. dont-let-your-pc-wear-out-your-eyes
To some extent, multitasking is a really important skill to survive at work and to be a productive team member. But, not always works well for you if you are only focusing on it during your workday.
Don’t always focus on multitasking to show how valuable a team member you are. Instead, focus on which task you can handle during multitasking.
Too much multitasking slows down your pace and distracts your attention from the most important task you are given.
YOU ARE NOT ALWAYS PERFECT
Workplaces have a lot of competition and it gives most people a lot of stress to be the best, It is a trap from companies to put pressure on you and make you work extensively and put you under stress.
Trying to be the best is one of the causes of stress at work.
Be in your own skin, you can’t be perfect every time. It will drain your energy and it will put you in an inferiority complex. Do as much as you know about any task and ask for assistance if you need so. Don’t run for perfectionism always.
STEP OUT OF THE OFFICE BUILDING:
Staying in the same stressful work environment would damage you. Seeing the same lunch break room, same coworkers, and same vending machine, again and again, will surely give you stress.
Always step out of your office building during your breaks, you can walk a bit during your breaks and get some fresh air. It will enhance your productivity and releases stress associated with work.
TALK WITH SOMEONE OR LISTEN TO MUSIC:
Now you are done with your workday and have left the stressful day at work. It’s time to relax and leave behind work at work.
Talk/ call your friend, partner, or family to divert your thoughts you have brought about work, or listen to your music and ease your nerves while driving or taking a bus home.
